Re; Proposed price increases to football pitches and other outdoor recreational facilities

I would like to protest against the proposed increases the council intends to levy on all outdoor facilities and in particular the increase to the council owned football pitches.

2006/2007 the cost of hiring a junior football pitch was £13.00
2007/2008 the cost of hiring a junior football pitch was £20.00

With the proposed increase:-

This is an increase of 92% within two years.

There has recently been a government lead campaign to promote a healthy lifestyle and to encourage children in particular to exercise.

There is also an initiative to try and promote sport and other local activities to give our children something constructive to do rather than hang around street corners where they cause problems to other people.

The many local football teams in the Havant area who:-

As well as the hiring of football pitches, clubs have considerable overheads such as:-

Referee costs
Equipment
Football strips
Hire of training facilities

All of the above increase every year leading to an higher subscriptions which each child must pay.
The proposed price increase will lead to some local clubs being unable to continue or they will have to raise the subscriptions again with the result that some children may no longer be able to afford to take part.
This is in direct contraindication to the government initiatives and we would like to protest very strongly against the proposed increases

Yours Sincerely
